Two countries, three dresses and a Grammy-winning singer — inside Courteney Cox’s unique nuptials
Courteney Cox and Johnny Mcdaid just couldn’t agree. Nearly two years after the actress and the rocker reconciled following a brief split in late 2015, they finally felt ready to start planning their wedding — only to encounter a big problem. “Johnny was adamant about marrying in Northern Ireland, where he’s from, but Courteney really wanted an LA wedding, especially since Ireland is so far for her mother to fly,” says an insider. “They kept butting heads about the location. Every time they tried to decide, they’d end up having an argument.”
Finally they settled on the ideal solution. “They decided they should just have two weddings,” the insider exclusively tells Life & Style. First, the Friends alum and the Snow Patrol guitarist will exchange vows in a small ceremony at a beautiful old church near Johnny’s childhood home in Derry, reveals the insider. That will be followed by a big par- ty weeks later at Courteney’s beachfront home in Malibu. They’ve even set the dates, which are sweetly significant. “The Irish ceremony will be in mid-June, around Courteney’s 54th birthday,” shares the insider, “and then they’ll celebrate in California in late July, around Johnny’s 42nd birthday.”
BEST OF BOTH WORLDS
With their bickering behind them, they’re having a blast planning all the details. “In February, Court and Johnny went to Northern Ireland, where they visited the church and arranged a post- wedding brunch afterward that will take place at a coun- try mansion near Johnny’s family home,” says the insider. “The whole thing will be small and laid-back.”
The LA wedding will be all about glitz and glamour. And Courteney’s modeling it after the 2015 wedding of her best friend, Jennifer Aniston, to Justin Theroux. “Court’s arranging a lavish bash at her Malibu home that’s being handled by the same event planners Jen and Justin used to arrange their secret wedding at their Bel Air mansion,” says the insider. Though Jen and Justin recently split, Courteney has Jen’s full support. “They’ve been there for each other through thick and thin, and Jen couldn’t be happier that her longtime pal has found happiness,” the insider says. In fact, “Jen’s
helping Courteney plan the weddings, and Courteney has asked Jen to be a bridesmaid.” Courteney and Johnny are sparing no expense for their big days. “Court’s fallen in love with a couture wedding dress by British designer Jenny Packham as well as one from Vera Wang,” says the insider. “She plans to have three outfit changes overall, so she’s flying to Paris soon to meet Zuhair Murad, who she’s hoping will make her third gown.” Guests can expect a wild night. “Court and Johnny have asked pal Ed Sheeran to perform at the LA bash, and they’re flying chefs in from all over the world, plus they’re splashing out over $250,000 on a fireworks display,” says the insider. “They’re both so excited — especially since they get to celebrate twice!”
