On social media, Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez were the image of cozy familial bliss. Posing in a group hug with their four kids — her twins, Emme and Max, 10, and his daughters, Ella, 10, and Natasha, 14 — on a Malibu beach on New Year’s Eve, the couple basked in the last golden rays of 2018.
But not everything’s so sunny for J. Lo and A-rod. While rumors of impending “I do”s have swirled since he duo began dating in 2017, recent high-stakes money dealings of Alex’s (including his, in effect, taking out a $5.5 million loan) have raised a red flag for famous workaholic Jen. “A-rod’s a risk-taker when it comes to business, and J. Lo’s worried that one poor decision could result in him losing his millions,” reveals a source. “In her eyes, life isn’t one big Monopoly game, and she thinks Alex should be more conservative with his money.”
STRIKING OUT OF CASH

A-rod’s incredible collection of artwork in his Coral Gables, Fla., home includes pieces by Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Jean-michel Basquiat. But the star recently borrowed against the paintings in order to lend $ 5.5M to another company with ties to him. “Now he’s at risk of losing his pieces if the business takes a turn for the worse,” notes the source. And the bold move comes amid a battle with ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis, 46, over spousal and child support — he’s been trying to reduce his $115,000-amonth payments now that he’s no longer a highly paid baseball pro. “His income has dropped by 90 percent,” dishes the source of A-rod, who claims to earn $3M annually now. “The days when he was making $30M a year are way in the past.”
The same can’t be said for his girlfriend. Jennifer, 49, is worth more than $ 400 million and reportedly earned an estimated $ 38 million in 2017. Now she’s feeling protective of the many rocks that she’s got. “J. Lo has been dropping not- sosubtle hints to A-rod about being more responsible with his money,” says the source. “Despite enjoying a glamorous lifestyle, she’s quite frugal with money — unlike her boyfriend. It would be her worst nightmare to lose everything they’ve worked so hard for.”
Alex is far from broke yet, though. And Jenny from the Block has warned him it better stay that way. “One of the reasons she was attracted to A-rod was because he was a success in his own right, and she doesn’t want that to change,” notes the source. “She’s told him that he needs to sort out his finances before she really considers walking down the aisle to become J-rod.”
