MEA CULPA
Amid the royal family’s recent health battles, Prince Harry extends an olive branch to older brother Prince William!
Prince Harry reaches out to brother Prince William to make amends during the royals’ time of crisis.
On March 5, the British Army announced on its website that Princess Kate would be at the Horse Guards Parade in London this June. The event would have marked her first public appearance since undergoing abdominal surgery in January — but the next day, the post was removed, fueling new conspiracy theories about the future queen’s health. So much so, that a representative for Prince William released a statement about why the heir to the throne hasn’t spoken out to set the record straight on Kate: “His focus is on his work and not on social media.”
With Kate still recovering, King Charles III undergoing cancer treatment and Queen Camilla taking a reported break from duties after weeks of covering for her ailing husband, William, 41, is baring the brunt of the royal responsibilities these days. Prince Harry wants to help, though. After years of estrangement and feelings of resentment, the Duke of Sussex, 39, “finally cracked. He reached out and apologized to William for all the past drama he’s caused, including the accusations he made in his book and interviews and just leaving the family in general,” a palace source reveals to Life & Style, noting the mea culpa came during a “tearful,” hour-long phone call. “He said, ‘I’m sorry for everything,’ and asked William to let him pitch in during Charles’ and Kate’s absences. Harry can see his brother is struggling.”
EARNING BACK TRUST
While the source says William was touched by the
gesture, one phone call doesn’t immediately fix the bad blood. “William accepted the apology, but he’s waiting to see if Harry can be trusted,” explains the source. “William has to be very careful, he needs Harry to prove himself. A part of him worries Harry will just take any info he learns during this trying time and use it against the royals in the future or, God forbid, write another tell-all.”
Another concern for William? Harry’s spouse and fellow pot stirrer, Meghan Markle, 42, hasn’t reached out, says the source. Though “Harry no longer felt like he could stand by and do nothing, he hasn’t suggested that Meghan’s on board with his apology,” shares the source. “Still, William really does want to open up to Harry. They used to be so close.”
Even if Harry manages to win over his big brother, though, getting back in his sister-in-law’s good graces won’t be easy. “Kate’s not on the same page as her husband and refuses to forgive Harry,” says the source. “And don’t even ask her about Meghan. As far as Kate’s concerned, her brotherin-law and his wife made their choice.”
