It’s been 30 years since I did my first cataract surgery. My, oh my! How things have changed over the years! It’s been exciting to see all the wonderful advancements that have occurred. My own expectations and that of the public have risen substantially. We are now able to deliver better results and more independence from glasses or contact lenses than ever before!

Cataracts gradually rob you of important visual details in life. Sometimes they seem to occur suddenly and other times they progress so gradually that one doesn’t realize what he or she is missing. Sometimes I’ll meet patients with poor vision who insist that they “see fine.” I once met a bus driver as a patient who had 20/200 vision and was still driving! Fortunately, cataract surgery can restore what was lost.

In order to offer the best results in cataract surgery today an ophthalmologist needs to be experienced with implanting premium lenses and also be an experienced laser vision correction surgeon. Today’s lens implants offer the ability to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism. Multifocal lens implants like the new PanOptix trifocal lens allow one to have distance, intermediate, and reading vision without glasses. It is the only true trifocal lens available in the U.S. We have been implanting this lens since August 2019 and have had wonderful results! Astigmatism can also be treated with lens implants at the same time as cataract surgery. Sometimes, it is necessary to do laser vision correction (LASIK) after cataract surgery in order to achieve the best results. We are fortunate to be able to provide that service to our community, as well.

It is important that your surgeon discuss the full range of options available to you. If you’re considering cataract surgery, you can reduce or eliminate your dependence on glasses. Imagine being able to wear non-prescription sunglasses or being able to hike or cycle without glasses. Imagine being able to drive or read without the hassle of looking for your glasses. If you have been diagnosed with cataracts, call 661-266-3937 and schedule an appointment for a cataract evaluation. If you’ve been referred to another doctor outside the Antelope Valley for surgery, save your time and your gas! Upper echelon care is available here now!
