It’s time for spring cleaning and gardening

-

Spring is in the air and it’s time to start thinking about planting a garden — or maybe just some flowers to brighten up your outdoor space.

This month’s edition of is focusing on spring home and garden. That means we’ve included some information about planting, as well as some tips to get your home sparkling.

In addition, we have our regular columns. Scott Lee is back with Tea Tales, in which he educates us about oolong tea. Did you know it’s not only one of the most beloved types of tea throughout the world, but one of the most expensive? Lee explains what makes the tea so expensive — it has to do with the oxidation process.

Do you enjoy spicy sauces on your food? If so, check out Meals with Wheels this month, as Wheeler Cowperthwaite offers his recipe for zhug. It’s sort of like a spicy pesto and can go with many dishes.

Norma Gurba always has an historic story to share about the Antelope Valley. This month, she talks about growing alfalfa and how it was a lucrative business at one time.

Meanwhile, Vern Lawson takes us back in time with his Hometown History column. This month, he reminds us of how women have been “on the march” for generations.

If you’re trying to keep that New Year’s resolution of staying healthy, don’t miss Cheryl Mashore’s column about eating well and making good food choices.

That’s it for this month, but get those pet photos ready because next month, we’ll feature the entries — and winners — of this year’s Pet Photo Contest.
