Spring has sprung and though the weather was a bit wacky in the middle of March, the flowers will soon be in full bloom.

Spring brings more than just beautiful flowers and warmer temperatures. It’s also time for our annual Pet Contest. Last month, we asked readers to submit photos of their furry (and maybe not-so-furry) friends. We received many entries, but could only choose three per category. Inside, you’ll find out who placed first, second and third in the following categories: Dogs, cats and “best pet.”

Though we’re focusing on pets this month, we also have our regular columns. Scott Lee educates us about Gaba tea. If you’ve never heard of it, you’re not alone. But you might be surprised to learn that it’s a highly specialized tea due to it’s processing.

In his Hometown History column, Vern Lawson remembers a time in Paris with his wife Margie and shares with, for our readers, some T.S. Eliot poetry.

With cell phones being commonplace and the Internet helping us access information at lightning speed, it’s hard to imagine a time with limited telephone service. Norma Gurba takes us back to a time in the Antelope Valley where phone service was a luxury.
