A fair and just First Lady

- Ahzhanay Bernard is a student in Ms. Meyer’s sixth-grade class at Creekside Elementary School. This was her winning essay in the 2017 Art Rabb Memorial Essay contest, which she presented at the Breakthrough Project’s Martin Luther King Jr. celebration las

This woman has come a long way from sclerosis. This woman has come a long way from living in a brick bungalow in South Side Chicago. This woman has come a long way from being the first person to establish a community service group in the University of Chicago.

You may know her as Michelle LaVaughn Obama, the First Lady. I know her as my role model of fairness, social justice and making the world a more peaceful place.

Michelle LaVaughn Obama was the first-ever African-American First Lady which already explains how she is making the world a better place.

First, she inspires people to achieve their goal, especially kids who need more strength and guidance. Although parents are always trying to influence their kids, some kids don’t pay attention but they might pay attention to the First Lady. Inspiring kids is a difficult task because parents are also always trying to tell their kids to do stuff and they don’t listen. I know this because I have friends that do not listen to their parents.

In addition, Michelle has previously launched a “Let Girls Learn” initiative. The objective is to educate girls to build a healthier family, stronger community, and a brighter future. She aims to help adolescent girls attain a quality education that empowers them to reach their full potential. This makes the world just fair and peaceful by letting girls do what their heart desires. Furthermore, this does not set limits on what dreams they can pursue.

Also, in February 2010, Mrs. Obama introduced “Let’s Move!” The campaign is to make a healthier generation of kids. The goal is to reduce the child obesity rate by just 5 percent by 2030. In addition to this goal, Michelle is trying to collaborate with the federal government to encourage many establishments and organizations to put an end to the obesity problem.

This movement is another example of Michelle Obama making this a just, fair and peaceful world. Michelle is addressing one person at a time. Not just about her initiatives but also bullying. I can do the same thing by addressing each one of my peers with the golden rule. Other people can do it also.

As an individual I believe I can make this a just, fair and peaceful world by following the golden rule and treating others how I would want to be treated. It is not fair when kids get bullied or picked on. The reason for this is because you’re hurting their feelings and they’re not hurting yours. It would be fair if they were mean to you back, but it would not be a peaceful world. That is why I admire Michelle because she does not tolerate bullies.

You can join me in making the world a better place by being nice to your neighbors, classmates and family. This concludes my statement on why I believe that Michelle Obama is making this world a better place by one step and one initiative at a time.
