Three locals earn MVP honors in SVC

The Sierra Valley Conference released its All-League teams for the winter season, and the list includes three MVP or co-MVP honors from the city of Galt.

In boys basketball, where Liberty Ranch went 9-1 to win the league title ofer an 8-2 Cordova, the Hawks’ Corey Potthoff and Chandler Garcia were named co-MVPs. The duo, along with the rest of the Hawks, made the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV semifinals, and open the Nor-Cal playoffs tonight at Lick-Wilmerding in San Francisco.

Garcia has averaged 14.7 points per game this season, along with 3.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.6 steals. Potthoff has averaged a double-double at 14.0 points and 13.0 rebounds.

Other Hawks to make allleague in boys basketball are Jalen Patterson, who led the team at 17.0 points per game,

and Jaime Gonzalez. Galt had one all-league selection in Tyler Rickenback.

In boys soccer, where Galt went 8-0-2 for the league title, with both ties coming against Liberty Ranch, the Warriors’ Arath Chavez was named league MVP after scoring a team-high 18 goals and tallying 16 assists (tying with teammate Adrian Copado) through the season.

Other all-SVC selections for Galt is Copado, Jose Alvarez, Fabian Rodriguez, Hector Serrato and Angel Lopez. All-league honors for second-place Liberty Ranch are Sal Medrano, Edwikn Cisneros, Ruben Gonzalez, Mason Ginni and Mark Vazquez.

For girls soccer, where Liberty Ranch was undefeated up until the SJS Division IV championsh­ip game on Saturday, a shootout loss to Woodland, the MVP went to Drew Swanson of El Dorado, but Hawks coach Robert Huarte was honored as Coach of the Year.

All-league selectons for Liberty Ranch are McKenna Brown, Karlie Hintze, Gianna Vigna, Evelyn Carlos, Adrianna DeLaTorre and Devyn Kelley. Two were named for Galt: Karen Cardenas and Alexis Posas.

In girls basketball, where Liberty Ranch and Galt finished fifth and sixth, respective­ly, Briley Jordet was named all-league for Liberty Ranch and Victoria Sokolova earned allleague honors for Galt.

In wrestling, only Galt’s Rigoberto Yepez was named all-league between the two Galt schools.

All-TCAL basketball

The Tri-City Athletic League released its allleague basketball teams this week, with two Lodi girls making the first team. in seniors Monica Valenzuela and Alexa Brand.

Valenzuela led the Flames, which placed second in league play, with 13 points and seven boards per game. Brand had 9.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.

Lincoln’s Zahria Hendrix was named league MVP, while the first team was rounded out with Tracy’s Izzie Valdez and Lincoln’s Kiara Manipol and Lianna Tillman.

Tokay’s Anessa Spradley and Katie Price were named to the second team, while Lodi’s Ellie Van Tassel and Tokay’s Dallas Orvick were honorable mention.

Price and Lodi’a Marissa Fabian were named to the all-TCAL defensive team.

On the boys side, Lincoln claimed the MVP as well with Andre Kelly. Tokay’s Aidan Green was named to the first team after a season averaging 20.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.

West’s Michael Hayes and Ephraim Estell, St. Mary’s Bryce Johnson and Lincoln’s Ezekiel Holman rounded out the first team.

Lodi sophomore Jaylin Reed was named to the second team, and honorable mention went to Tokay’s Austin Dongon and Jorge Hernandez.

Green and Lodi’s Nathan Foster were named to the All-Defensive team.
