Hawks too much for Warriors, win on tennis court

The Liberty Ranch High tennis team knocked off cross-town rival Galt by an 8-1 score in a Sierra Valley Conference contest on Thursday.

The Hawks swept the singles matches over the Warriors. In the No. 1 girls singles match, Elvira Cuz beat Galt’s Alicia Orozco 6-1, 60, and Juliet Rodriguez posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Diana Ocegueda. For the boys’ singles matches, Liberty Ranch’s William Gasca chased Chase Taylor in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5, and Jacob Mitchell posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Paul Newberger.

Galt’s only win came in the No. 1 girls’ doubles match, when Kirsten Miller/Aysha Gonzalez knocked off Emily Turnover/Jillian Holguin 3-6, 6-4 (10-8). Liberty Ranch won the other girls’ double match, as Alisa Cruz/Alejandra Flores had a 6-2, 6-3 win over Victora Flores/Piscilla Aleman.

In boys’ doubles matches, the Hawks’ Hunter Franklin/Mason Ginni blanked Joey Young/Luis Sanchez 6-0, 6-0, while Alex Perez/Mason Smith slipped past Jesus Gomez/Martin Bastida 6-0, 64.

Liberty Ranch’s Stefania Salgado/Mick Mancebo shut out David Meixner/Krystal Rodriguez 6-0, 6-0 in mixed doubles.

SOFTBALL

Competing at the St. Mary’s Tournament in Morada, Kaela Brown and Mia Misasi had a hit each for Tokay (4-2) in the opener.

BASEBALL

The Flames scored the go-ahead run, plus another for insurance, in the bottom of the fifth inning in a pool play game against the Pride in the Gregori/Salida Rotary Classic Tournament in Modesto.

Lodi (3-1) and Pitman were tied 11 until the fifth when Logan Stout scored on Jose Hinojosa’s double. Hinjosa touched home plate for a 31 score.

Ante Andrews went six innings on the mound for Lodi, and allowed only two hits. Owen Christense­n tossed the final inning for the save.
