Robinson’s Feed to host event celebrating the new Netflix show ‘Spirit Riding Free’
In May, the new show “Spirit Riding Free” debuted on Netflix. The show tells the tale of 12-year-old Fortuna “Lucky” Prescott, who struggles to adapt to her new hometown of Miradeo, Oregon. She befriends a mustang — Spirit, the descendant of the stallion from the 2002 animated Dreamworks movie — and through him, meets new friends who also love horses.
Robinson’s Feed in Lodi and Breyer Animal Creations are hoping young Lodi-area horse lovers will also want to fall in love with Spirit.
On Saturday, Robinson’s will host Spirit Riding Free Fun Day at the Lodi store. At three different sessions, children are welcome to come in and paint a “Stablemate” model.
Breyer will be providing the blank model horses for children to paint while they watch a few episodes of the new show.
“They’re about three to four inches, so they’re relatively small. They’re a blank canvas. The kids are provided with a bunch of paint,” said Yesenia Huerta, an employee at the store who is helping to organize the event.
The kids can try to paint their horses to match those on the show, or they can get
creative, she said.
Breyer invited Robinon’s to host the event as the company launches its line of model horses based on the new Netflix show. The company previously released several models based on “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron” — some by late Lodi artist Rowland Cheney.
Along with the small blank models, the company is providing
one of the completed models to be raffled off during the event at Robinson’s. There will also be posters from the show, and snacks — probably juice and cookies, which the store has served up during past events, Huerta said.
Robinson’s is one of only a few stores in the country holding a “Spirit” event, she said.
