Republican Party has its own issues

- JOANNE DELSOLAR Lodi

Editor: Props to Mr. Gary Maurer for his response to the increasingly bitter writings of a serial contributor to the LNS.

It is sad that this writer believes that everyone living in California is an unemployed leech on society. I am sure most Californians would disagree.

According to The Atlantic, “whites without a college degree — the cornerstone of the modern GOP electoral coalition — have emerged as principal beneficiaries” of public assistance programs.

I laughed out loud when I read, “Perhaps they’ll discover what it means to be a man a woman can respect and, most importantly, trust.” Does he mean a man like Trump whose first two wives trusted him to not jump into other women’s beds, or who he stiffs contractors and drives them into bankruptcy?

Unless the writer believes Republicans were waiting for another scandal-filled Republican regime, then no, I doubt anyone was waiting for Trump. At least Reagan, in the early stages of the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease, had plausible deniability for the Iran-Contra scandal. Trump, although displaying signs of mental instability, has no valid excuse. The only question remaining is, “Who will be Trump’s Ollie North?”

Right now it’s a toss-up between Donnie, Jr. and Jared Kushner. Both are severely afflicted with “Russian amnesia,” but which one has more to lose? Is it the prodigal son, or the real estate magnate with huge debts he desperately needs to cover?

Kushner is already steering U.S. policy in ways that punish those who have refused to loan him money to save his 666 Park Avenue project. Qater recently pulled out of a $500 million deal and China did likewise with its offer of billions. Trump was Johnnyon-the-spot condemning Qater for funding terrorism and criticizing China for not helping curb North Korean nuclear ambitions.

Trump has not fulfilled a single campaign promise. He has signed 90-plus executive orders, filled his swamp with billionaire and GoldmanSachs alligators, and appointed idiots like Rick Perry who hilariously schooled us on “supply and demand.”

If this was the old West, Trump would have been run out of town on a rail by now.
