Lodi duo competing at sectional swim meet

Two members of the Lodi Swim Club are looking to make a splash in Southern California starting today through this weekend.

Gianni Pitto and Maddie Woznick will compete in the 2017 California-Nevada Sectional Meet at the Splash Regional Aquatic. Pitto, who is ranked No. 3 nationally according to Lodi Swim Club coach John Griffin, will compete in the 100 freestyle and 200 breaststro­ke. Woznick, who will be a junior this school year, will race in the 100 freestyle.

Pitto and Woznick advanced to the CIF State Swimming and Diving Championsh­ips two months ago as part of the Lodi High girls swimming team. Pitto will be a senior when the 2017-18 school year starts on July 31, and Woznick will be a junior.

Last weekend, members of the Lodi Swim Club competed at the California Gold Junior Olympics in Redding.

In the girls 15-16 division, Melissa Celli took first place in the 200 breaststro­ke, and had two second place finishes in the 100 breaststro­ke and the 800 freestyle. Celli was fourth in the 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley, and sixth in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle.

Thomas Dondero took a fourth place finish in the 400 freestyle for the boys’ 15-16 division. He was also seventh in the 100 backstroke. Aaron Hicks, competing in the same division as Dondero, was sixth in the 100 freestyle and seventh in the 50 freestyle. Sophia Parises, in the girls’ 11-12 division, took seventh in the 50 butterfly and the 50 freestyle.
