Truth will trump the cry of fake news

Editor: A recent contributor wrote about a poll conducted in October that showed 46 percent of American voters believe that the media fabricates stories about Trump. Of the 1,991 individuals polled on a wide range of topics, 916 said yes, 731 said no, and 344 were undecided.

It is interesting to note that 76 percent of Republicans polled believe in Trump’s “fake news” claim, while 20 percent of Democrats believe his claim. One thing is certain — the longer one hears that the news is fake, the more brainwashed they become. I would be willing to bet that most respondents do very little reading of their own, or they are addicted to Fox News that picks and chooses which Trump stories to run — most of which are slanted.

This same poll showed that 62 percent believe that the country has “pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track” under Trump.

The writer claims that stories of Trump’s successes are never told. I am not sure what news outlets she is watching, but most television media outlets have reported on the topics she outlines.

The difference? Most report the truth and not the made up claims of Fox such as their business host Stuart Varney’s claim that $5 trillion in wealth has been created for American workers. His claim has since been debunked by reliable economists.

PolitiFact has also debunked the claim that African American youth unemployment has fallen due to Trump’s policies. The fact is that unemployment for this group — ages 16-24 — has been falling continuously since 2009 from 28 percent to 17.25 percent in 2016.

Most individuals who actually know something about economics confirm that much of what Trump takes credit for is simply carryover from the Obama-led recovery and not non-existent Trump accomplishments.

As for regulations, Trump’s Revenge Tour has overturned 52 environmental regulations, most having nothing to do with creating jobs and more to do with destroying the planet.

As we learned on Oct. 30, steps towards the unmasking of the Trump Crime Family’s treasonous activities are beginning to bear fruit.

Trump is still desperately and frantically trying to frame it all as Fake News. JOANNE DELSOLAR Lodi

Why abolish a valuable commission?

Editor: As a senior citizen it was of interest I read your recent article identifying the council’s intent to review the proposal to abolish the voluntary Senior Commission as recommended by Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Hood.

While Mr. Hood is quite articulate in his rationale about why he can’t effectively manage the commission he offers no alternative except that it really is not part of his department’s job and “another private entity” (with no city oversight) could do it better.

Hmmm, OK. Absent from Mr. Hood are any negative comments about the commission so one would presume it was of value in providing him input and recommendations.

My question is how does Mr. Hood now seek to obtain counsel about the wishes and needs of the senior citizens? TERRY SPRING Lodi
