Gift of marriage for Bloom, Tener

Kristen Bloom of Vallejo and Matthew Tener of Vallejo were married on Dec. 17.

Bloom is the daughter of Kelly Bloom of Angels Camp and Tener is the son of Jon and Donna Tener of Lodi.

The ceremony was held at the University of the Pacific’s Anderson Hall in Stockton. Bruce Bloom, the brother of the bride, officiated. The reception was held at the University of the Pacific’s Alex and Jeri Vereschagi­n Alumni House.

The bride was attended by Bruce Bloom, the “Dude of Honor.” The best man was Michael Tener, a brother of the groom.

The bride chose to wear her mother’s wedding gown (all white dress, altered to mermaid style; no veil; red high heels) with a bouquet of red roses and a color scheme of red, white, black, and silver.

In attendance with the bride were Kelly Bloom; Bruce Bloom and Whitney Pate (future sister-in-law); Karen and James Newman (aunt and uncle); James Huiras (uncle); James III, Larissa, and Stephanie Huiras (cousins); and 12 close friends.

In attendance with the groom were Donna and Jon Tener; Michael and Vanessa Tener (sister-in-law) and children, Marissa and Jack; Lloyd Shipley (grandfathe­r); Patricia and James Tener (aunt and uncle); Meggan and Steve Crim, and Amie (cousins); and 16 close friends.

The bride graduated from Bret Harte High School and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from University of the Pacific. She currently works at the California State University Maritime Academy.

The groom graduated from Lodi Academy and earned his bachelor’s degree from California State University, Sacramento, and his master’s degree from University of the Pacific. He currently works at the California State University Maritime Academy.

After their honeymoon in Cancun, Mexico, the couple will continue to reside in Vallejo.

Local students make dean’s lists, earn scholarshi­ps

Colleges are sharing recent accomplish­ments by Lodi-area students:

• Tyler Sefried of Lodi has been accepted for admission to Luther College of Decorah, Iowa for the 2018-19 academic year.

He has been awarded the Transfer President’s Scholarshi­p.

• Katarina Perez of Galt has been named to the dean’s list at Rogers State University in Claremore, Okla. Dean’s list students must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

• Emily Angela Johnson of Stockton has been named to the dean’s list at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Dean’s list students must have a GPA of 3.7 or higher while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours.

Cell Block 7 to play at American Legion Hall

Lodi jazz band Cell Block 7 will have American Legion Hall swinging from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. tonight. There is no cover charge, and food will be available for purchase.

Day-2-Day Diabetes Support Group holds first meeting of 2018

The Day-2-Day Diabetes Support Group will hold its first meeting of the year on Thursday at the Lodi Public Library, located at 201 W. Locust St., Lodi.

Doors open at 5:30, and the meeting begins at 6 p.m., featuring guest speaker Emily Wolfe, who teaches exercise classes for people with diabetes.

The group meets the third Thursday of every month at the Lodi Public Library, and admission is free.

Lodi Low Vision Support Group meeting

The Lodi Low Vision Support group will meet at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Solstice Retirement Facility’s Activity Room, located at 2145 W. Kettleman Lane, Lodi.

The group will discuss topics such as the use of the Amsler Grid and special glasses for watching television.

The Native Sons of the Golden West Stockton Parlor No. 7 will hold its crab feed on Friday, featuring DJ music and a raffle. A social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., with dinner following at 6:30 p.m.

The Lodi Boys & Girls Club will hold its annual crab feed at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the club, 275 Poplar St., Lodi.

Safe driving class to be held for seniors

A safe driving class for seniors will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 26 at the California Highway Patrol’s Stockton office, 2720 Wilcox Road. Senior drivers will need to register by calling 209-9384800. Space is limited.

AAUW offers six scholarshi­ps

The American Associatio­n of University Women is offering the Joanne Donovan Scholarshi­p to two high school seniors interested in studying speech-related fields, with an applicatio­n deadline of March 2.

The Lodi branch of the AAUW will also award four $1,000 scholarshi­ps, one to a senior at each of Lodi’s high schools who plans to attend a two- or four-year college next year.

The deadline for the Lodi scholarshi­p is March 7.
