Anagnos honored by Chamber for contribution to agribusiness
The Lodi Chamber of Commerce has named John Anagnos this year’s recipient of the Agribusiness Person of the Year for his continual support of many local agricultural events and organizations.
Born and raised in Lodi, Anagnos has lifelong ties to the area. After attending Tokay High School and being exposed to agriculture through the FFA, he began a long career working for his second cousin, Larry Mettler, at what is now called Arbor Vineyards. This will be Anagnos’ 38th year with the company.
Anagnos was very involved in the California Young Farmers Association, working through the officer ranks to president. He volunteered with the Mokelumne Fire Department in Victor and Lockeford, whose district covers eastern rural Lodi. Retiring after 19 years of service as a volunteer engineer and EMT, he is still active with the department as a board director and an association member.
Anagnos served five years as a director with the Lodi Winegrape Commission, is a San Joaquin Farm Bureau member, and has served the past five years as Director of Victor Farm Center.
He volunteers with the Claude Brown Crew, cooking at many charitable and civic events.
Anagnos said his biggest achievement has been starting and chairing the Cancer Kids of San Joaquin County Stomp Out Childhood Cancer fundraising event.
Anagnos will be honored at the Chamber’s annual meeting and Outstanding Citizens Celebration on Thursday, Feb. 1, from 5:30 to 9 p.m., at Wine & Roses. Tickets are available for purchase at lodichamber.com/outstandingcitizen or by calling 209-367-7830, ext. 105.
