Loiacono shuts down East Union in low-scoring game

Robbie Loiacono pitched a five-hit shutout for the Lodi High baseball team that led to Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over East Union at Zupo Field. He struck out five batters.

At the plate, Lodi (4-3) managed one hit and seven walks, with Colton Smithhart driving in Logan Stout for the deciding run. Smithhart walked three times, and Stout walked twice. Bobby Yabumoto accounted for Lodi’s hit with a single. Freshmen

Jake Fritz went 2-for-3 in Wednesday’s victory, with two runs from Domenic Demskiand two RBIs from Carson Devine. Isaac Snider went 2 2/3 innings with one run allowed, and Hayden Hildenbran­d finished the final 4 1/3 innings with no runs and 10 strikeouts.

TRACK AND FIELD Varsity boys

Erik Ebert and James Angel won a couple of events each to help the Flames win on Wednesday, with Ebert taking the 400 at 50.36 seconds and the 200 at 22.59 seconds, and Angel taking the 1,600 at 4 minutes, 49 seconds and the 800 at 2:08. Peter Vo won the 3,200 at 10:31, Ryan Westerterp won the 110 hurdles at 15.90 and Andrew Clemons won the 400 hurdles to complete a near-sweep of the running events.

Bryan Quintero added a win in the discus at 148-4, Darrius Hart won the high jump at 5-10 and the 4-by-400 relay team won at 43.91. Varsity girls Emily Dubois and

Ruth Hernandez led the Flames to victory on Wednesday, with Dubois winning three jumping events — the high jump at 4-10, the triple jump at 33-4 and the long jump at 17-0 — and Hernandez winning two in the 1,600 (5:35) and the 3,200 (12:23).

Paige Sefried added a victory in the 400 at 1:01, Raven Edwards won the 100 at 13.21, Brooke Aberle won the 800 at 2:39 and Jackie Westerterp won the 300 hurdles at 48.08. Frosh-soph boys

Adolfo Sanchez won a pair of sprints, taking the 100 at 11.40 seconds and the 200 at 24.75 in Lodi’s loss on Wednesday. Nicholas Bersi added a victory in th 1,500 at 5 minutes, 2 seconds, and the 4-by100 relay team won in 47.39 seconds. Frosh-soph girls

Katrina Chang won three events to help the Flames to a team victory on Wednesday, taking the 100 hurdles at 20.09, the 300 hurdles at 52.18 and the high jump at 4-8.

Ceclia Chinchiolo added wins in the discus (86-0) and the shot put (27-5), to go along with Hannah Dondero’s win in the 100 (14.00), Aiyana Evans’ win in the triple jump (28-7), Ashley Cabebe’s win in the long jump (14-8) and relay wins in the 4-by-100 (55.52) and the 4-by-400 (4:39).

GOLF

Justin Gums fired a 37 for Lodi (5-1) at Wednesday’s nonleague match at The Resserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, par 36. Tyler Rowlands and Dean Ky fired a 39 each, Evan Seibly 45 and Ryan Chraska 46.
