Trio of local players preparing for all-star game

Three Lodi area high school softball players will represent their respective schools before their graduate toward the end of this week.

Elliot Christian High’s Madi Sepp, along with Galt’s McKinzie Spriggs and Liberty Ranch’s Jordyn Farren, will be taking part in the 41st annual Optimist High School Softball All Star games, featuring all seniors in the contest. The game is scheduled for Wednesday at Capital Christian High School, located at 9470 Micron Ave. in Sacramento.

The trio are part of the South team of the Small Schools game, which will face the North team. El Dorado High coach Gail Ford is the South head coach, with Natomas’ Jeremy Arsich and Rosemont’s Todd Mills serving as assistant coaches. Valley Christian High of Roseville coach Shawnda Bowen will be the North head coach.

Sepp was a four-year starter as catcher for Elliot. She lead the Eagles with a .672 batting average, 24 RBIs and six doubles. She also stole nine bases out of 11 attempts. Sepp also had a .992 fielding percentage for Elliot, which went to the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs the last four years. She will be attending and playing softball at Menlo College in Atherton starting in August.

Spriggs played catcher and shortstop for the Warriors in recent years. She had an even batting average of .500, plus 33 RBIs and nine triples. On defense, she had a fielding percentage of .842. Spriggs will be attending and playing softball at Sacramento City College when the fall semester begins in August.

Farren is a three-year starter for Liberty Ranch. The utility player played a key role for the Hawks, who have won the last two Sierra Valley Conference titles. Farren finished this season with a .455 batting average and an amazing 39 RBIs, plus 10 doubles and five home runs. On defense, Farren had a .976 fielding percentage in playing catcher and third

base. Farren, too, will be teammates with Spriggs at Sacramento City College later this summer.

The Small Schools’ game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. There will also be a large school game, which will also be played at Capital Christian, starting at 6:30 p.m.

General admission is $10, seniors 65 and over is $8, students $5 and kids under 12 is $3. The proceeds from this event will solely be used for youth programs and projects in the Sacramento and greater Sacramento areas.
