Tigers win Sierra Shootout; Flames sixth in Merced

The Tokay High girls water polo team won the Gold Division at the Sierra Shootout in Folsom on Saturday, with two victories on the second day of the tournament.

In the first game, Alanna Stoops had six saves and Nicole Iturraran had five goals as the Tigers took down Sonora 10-7, Lizzie Macfarlane and Hannah Ortiz added two goals each, and Katie McClain added one.

In the finale, Tokay defeated College Park 11-8, with six goals from Iturraran and seven saves from Stoops. Macfarlane had three goals, and Ortiz had two.

It was the first time in school history that Tokay won the Sierra Shootout.

The Tigers (4-0) started on Friday with a 16-3 win over McClatchy and a 10-7 win over Bella Vista.

In boys water polo action, the Lodi High boys water polo team placed sixth out of 24 teams at the Roddy Svendson Tournament in Merced over the weekend, with a 2-2 record.

The Flames started on Friday with an 11-10 win over Pitman, with five goals from Alex Elrod, four from Victor Plunkett and two from Matt McKay. Tristan Gorham had eight saves in goal.

Later on Friday, Lodi fell to Foothill 15-11, with four goals from Alex Elrod, two each from Victor Plunkett and Seth Hillstrom and one each from McKay, Eli Kim and Jack LeBaron. Gorham had six saves.

The Flames started the second day of the tournament with a 13-11 victory over Merced, with 13 saves from Gorham to go along with four goals from LeBaron, three each from Benton Peterson and Plunkett, two from Elrod and one from Kim.

In the final game, Lodi fell 14-11 to Buhach Colony, with four goals from Kim, three from Plunkett and one each from Peterson, LeBaron, Elrod and McKay.

Gorham had eight saves.
