Lodi girls win Frogtown cross country meet with two runners in top five

The Lodi High girls cross country team won the largeschoo­l girls division of the Bret Harte Frogtown Invitation­al on Saturday at the Calaveras County Fairground­s near Angels Camp.

Ruth Hernandez placed third overall with a 10-minute, 38-second run in the steep mountain course, with Pamela Decko running 21:01 for fifth in the 104-runner race.

Paris Heiser (10th at 21:36), Yasmin Melendrez (16th at 22:20) and Audrey Garcia (15th at 22:26) rounded out the scoring runners for the Flames.

In the large-school boys race, the Flames were fifth, led by Lucas Fonda in third place at 17:19. Jesus Santillan was 10th at 17:52, Luke Peterson was 25th at 18:25, Casimiro Rodriguez was 42nd at 19:00 and Nicolas Rasiolo was 46th at 19:25.

The small-school boys race saw Liberty Ranch place fourth, led by Xavier Morales’ sixth-place finish at 17:25. Braden Birkes was 23rd at 18:23, Adam Lima was 26th at 18:43, Cole Parker was 31st at 18:54 and Cyrus Walker was 35th at 19:04.

Galt was also in the smallschoo­l boys race, placing 15th. Ethan Reece was the top Warrior, in 38th place at 19:09.

VOLLEYBALL

It took five sets, but the visiting Venture Academy volleyball team was able to finish off Elliot on Monday, with a 15-7 fifth set.

Venture won the first set 2522, followed by a 25-22 Elliot win. The teams traded two more set — 27-25 Venture, 2518 Elliot — before Venture won the fifth.

Bailey Correia led the Eagles with 18 kills, along with four aces, four blocks and 15 digs. Kayleigh Schrader had nine kills, four aces and six digs and Claire Hultgren had nine assists, four aces and four digs.

The Tigers dropped Monday’s TCAL opener with a 2519, 25-20, 25-18 loss to Tracy, led by nine kills from Kayly Pau and 12 blocks from Ehlie Burroughs. Pau added two aces, four blocks and two digs, while Burroughs added four kills.

Grace Polhemus had 18 digs and two aces, Jacqueline Patino had eight digs, Mary Keithley had four digs, Anahi Ramirez had three aces, two kills and six digs, Natalie Adams had four kills and two blocks, Ravneet Rajasansi had 15 assists and two aces, Belle Patino had 18 digs, Taylor Willis had eight kills, two aces and two blocks, Natalie Polhemus had 14 assists, sox kills, four blocks and 13 digs and Devyn McClurg had five digs.

The Warriors opened SVC play with a 25-17, 25-11, 25-11 loss. Lodi Academy took one set, winning the third 25-12, but HAC took the rest — 25-19, 2518 and 25-23. JV

Darianna Guidi had 15 digs and two aces as the Tigers fell 25-18, 25-17 on Monday. Kyla Thornton had four kills, and Paige Delph had two kills, three aces, five digs and three assists. Freshmen

Madison Covey-Taylor had nine digs as Tokay fell 26-24, 25-8 on Monday, along with four digs from Melissa Parra, five digs and three assists from Paris Vang, three digs and three assists from Caitlyn Nunes, five kills and two digs from Morgan Daniels and six digs from Jasmine Riegel.
