Warriors beat Franklin, enter SVC at 4-1

-

Galt High’s football team exploded on offense on Friday for a 49-13 road victory over Franklin High of Stockton to finish the preseason with a 4-1 record.

The Yellowjackets fell to 05, but the Warriors still celebrated the destruction of a team from a larger school.

“We saw a team like Modesto gave up 19 points to these guys, and Linden, who we played, gave up some pretty good points,” Galt coach Tim Cobleigh said. “They’re an athletic football team, and we were concerned coming into this game. We didn’t have good film clips. Some of the film we did have, we picked up on it, and told the kids, just go out there and play football.”

With Jonah Delrio and Anthony Sanchez running the rock and quarterback Robert Bulahan Jr. slinging the ball, Galt was able to steadily pull away. Bulahan threw two touchdowns and rushed for another.

Cobleigh said defensive back Isaac Madrigal nabbed a key interception in the fourth quarter that allowed the Warriors to get the starters off the field and avoid injuries.

“We’re always struggling with injuries,” Cobleigh said. “Blake Beck is still down with a shoulder, we have other kids with aching knees and shoulders. We have a great trainer, Laura Fowler, who takes care of them and gets them back on the field for us.”

Cobleigh said he shared with the players during Thursday’s team dinner than when the coaching staff put the schedule together, he figured Fortuna would be a tough game, but he expected

the Warriors to go 4-1 in the preseason. Assistant coach Vincent Grieco disagreed.

“The kids made him a liar,” Cobleigh said with a laugh.

Galt will open Sierra Valley Conference play on the road next Friday, taking on El Dorado in Placerville. El Dorado went 1-4 in the preseason, with its lone victory a 21-16 win over Bret Harte. The Cougars had a bye on Friday.
