The City of Galt on Wednesday announced the hiring of Claire Tyson as the city’s new finance director.

“Galt is a vibrant city, poised for economic expansion, managed by a team of professionals focused on the needs of the community,” Tyson said in a Wednesday press release. “It is a privilege to serve at the City of Galt.”

Tyson’s first day as Galt’s finance director was Wednesday, the press release said, and she had previously worked as assistant chief financial officer for the City of Stockton since 2015.

Prior to working for Stockton, Tyson was the City of Stockton’s budget officer, the press release said, and she has also worked as associate vice president of financial services for California State University, Stanislaus and as director of finance for San Joaquin Delta College.

“I have a great deal of experience in all areas of finance, so I think I bring consistency and knowledge to the position,” Tyson said.

Tyson has also held accounting positions for Diamond of California and a local certified public accountant firm in the past.

“I am pleased Ms. Tyson has become a member of our City team,” City Manager Eugene Palazzo said. “She has a solid reputation in government finances and comes to the City with a variety of experience both public and private. I am confident she will lead the City forward with a high standard in financial management.”
