Flames fall in tennis playoffs

The Lodi High tennis team’s postseason ended in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs on Monday with a 6-3 loss to Oak Ridge.

The 12th-seeded Flames had two victories in the singles matches at Broadstone Raquet Club, with Johnna Schroeder beating Kapri Lyons 6-0, 7-6 (4) at No. 2 singles and Jenna Dougherty beating Oak Ridge’s Nikki Spies 6-4, 7-5 at No. 6 singles.

Lodi’s third victory came at No. 2 doubles, where Alyssa Mataga and Kaylee Mataga teamed up to beat Cardine Sauler and Madison Marc 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

Oak Ridge, the No. 5 seed, swept the other four singles matches, with Nikki Barajas losing 6-1, 7-6 to Dari Acri at No. 1 singles, Mia Carouba losing 6-3, 6-2 to Grace Hsueh at No. 3, CeCe Chinchiolo losing 6-4, 7-5 to Lauren Arnold at No. 4 and Anna Spaletta losing 6-2, 6-4 to Bella Hsueh at No. 5.

In doubles, the team of Julia Sherman and Mary Barnes lost 6-0, 6-2 to Caroline Branch

and Mia Johnson at No. 1, and Julia Archibeque and Emily Johnson lost 6-4, 6-1 to Maya Lojo and Enka Masquallin­g.

Golf

Tokay golfer Aleesa Ohata’s season came to an end on Monday at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament, where she carded a 93. Liberty Ranch’s Johnna Wise shot a 103.

The tournament, which brought together the best golfers in the section, sends the top three teams along with the top four individual­s not on those teams. Granite Bay won the team scoring with a 399, with St. Francis (447) and Oakdale (454) also advancing.

The four individual­s advancing are Lincoln’s Anitra Khoth with a 75, followed by the trio of Katie Harris of Antelope, Lauren Garces of Lincoln and Skyler May of St. Mary’s, each with 79s.

They advance to the NorCal Championsh­ip, which is Nov. 5 at Woodbridge Golf & Country Club.
