Earl Lee Derby passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the age of 84. He was born in Markville, Minnesota on May 5, 1934. He is preceded in death by his first wife Lois who died in 1990, his sister Alice May Newman, sister Hazel Derby, and brother Edward Derby. He is survived by his brother Donald Derby, sister Elizabeth Costa, and domestic partner Marion Anderson.

Earl came to California with his parents at two years old and grew up in French Camp. He graduated from Manteca High School in 1948. He worked for six years in the Manteca area and then joined the United States Navy in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1958.

Earl worked as a maintenanc­e engineer at the Stockton Ship Yard, Moore Equipment and Dameron Hospital in Stockton where he finally retired.

He met his partner of twenty eight years Marion Anderson in November 1990. They moved from California to Oregon in 1995 and back to Lodi in 2013. Earl will be dearly missed by Marion and her two sons and their wives, Dan (Patricia) Anderson, Larry (Georgeann) Anderson, their families and Marion’s extended family. Also dearly missed by his brother Donald Derby and sister Elizabeth Costa and their families.

The family will celebrate his life with a private event.
