LEO C. SIMPFENDER­FER

Leo C. Simpfender­fer passed away at home Christmas morning after an extended illness.

Leo was born September 6, 1931 in Golden Valley, North Dakota to mother Martha and father Bill. He moved with his family to Lodi when he was six years old. He graduated from Lodi High in 1949. He served in the USNavy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War. After his service he went to meat cutting and sausage making school in Ohio.

On May 18, 1957 he married his next door neighbor Delores Goehring. He was a hard worker who often worked two jobs at once in his younger years. After many years working as a butcher and sausage maker, he switched careers to work for the US Postal Service.

He was an avid sports fan and often attended Lodi High and Tokay High sporting events and was a regular at UOP basketball games. He rooted for the 49ers and the Milwaukee, now Atlanta Braves. He was a good fast pitch softball player. He coached Little League baseball for five years. He love to golf and he refereed basketball.

He was a member of the Lodi American Legion for 58 years, a member of SIRS, and longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife Delores and their children Cindy (Vince) Pfeiffer and Greg Simpfender­fer. He is survived by two grandchild­ren Danielle (Leonard) Bennett and Jennifer Schmeck and six great grandchild­ren. He leaves a sister, Leanora Grenz, and a brother, Dr. Larry (Paula) Simpfender­fer. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Rolland.

His funeral will be Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 10:30 am at Zion Lutheran Church. A light lunch will be served at the church following the service. At 1:00 pm a burial service will be held at Cherokee Memorial Park. Visitation at Lodi Funeral Home will be Monday, December 31, 2018 from 12:00 pm to 4 pm and Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lodi American Legion Post 22.
