Flames cooled off by Wildcats in title game

The Lodi High boys basketball team ended its pre-season with an 8-8 record on Saturday with a 69-49 loss to Sonora in the title game of the Columbia College Holiday Classic.

Marcell Roberts scored in double figures for Lodi with 14 points and nine rebounds. Colton Stout followed with 10 points and five assists.

The Flames’ Matt Nickle and Andreas Pappas, both of whom were named to the alltournam­ent team, scored eight and five points respective­ly. Chase Shafter also had eight points, while teammates Erville Dela Cruz and Nathan Shoup had two each.

Lodi opens Tri-City Athletic League action at Tracy on Friday.

Argonaut 58, Elliot 44

Nate Washington had 15 points for Elliot Christian (113) in Saturday’s non-league contest in Jackson. Zebrick Humphreys had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles, Roy Itovichi eight points, Joshua Alejandre six points and nine rebounds, Alexander Pinasco three points and 10 rebounds and Ryan Ehresman two points.

Liberty Ranch Riverbank 54 79,

Jalen Patterson was one of four Liberty Ranch (16-1) players who scored in double figures with 25 points in Friday’s non-league home win.

Jayden Baroni and Josh Seiler had 15 points each for the Hawks, and Isaac Padilla 10. Liberty Ranch led only 3630 at halftime, but a 26-point third quarter put the game out of reach.

Liberty Ranch closes out its preseason schedule with another home game today at 7 p.m. against Center of Antelope.

Junior varsity boys

Orland 45, Tokay 40

Ryker Henne scored 14 points for Tokay in Saturday’s game of the Dixon Ram Jam Winter Classic. Uri Penaflor had 10 points, Jorden Lawrence and AJ O’Grodinick seven each and Nick Merrill two.

Vanden 69, Tokay 28

Henne scored eight points in Friday’s game. O’Grodnick was next with seven points, Merrill five, Cylas Riley four, Penaflor and Lawrence two each.

Freshmen boys

Lodi 55, Franklin 33

Carter Swicegood and Mason Stout had eight points each for Lodi, which took third place at the Stagg Tournament on Saturday.

Dylan Scott and Kevin Dondero followed with seven points each, Angel Landa and Riley Ebbs six each, Adan Alvarez three and Hayden Moreno, Jack Youngberg, Pierce DeAndreis, Dylan Johnson and Steven Whiting had two each.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Junior varsity

Lodi 48, Bella Vista 15

Kayleigh Coberly scored 17 points for Lodi, which took fifth place at the Rocklin Tournament on Saturday. Angie Fugazi followed with 15 points, Hannah Funke nine, Asliyah Williams five and Emily Coons two.

Manteca 40, Tokay 31

Jenny Corona had 13 points, four steals, three block shots and two assists for Tokay in the third place at the Ripon Tournament on Saturday. Ahmiena El-Kheidi had nine points and 13 rebounds, Amara Charles eight points and 10 rebounds and Yasmeen Ibrahim one point and three boards.

BASEBALL Baseball camp

Lodi High is hosting a fourweek baseball camp starting on Jan. 5, directed by Lodi coach Hobie Schultz in conjunctio­n with U.S. Baseball Academy.

Classes are for players from first to 12th grade, and are limited to seven players per coach. Sessions include advanced hitting, pitching, catching, fielding and baserunnin­g.
