Aberle leads Flames in TCAL opener

The Lodi High girls basketball team opened Tri-City Athletic League on Thursday with a 50-46 victory over Tracy at The Inferno.

Brooke Aberle led the Flames with 13 points, along with 11 from Ellie Van Tassel, nine from Marissa Fabian, seven from Calista Morita, five from Aiyana Evans, four from Veronica Alejandrez and one from Isabela Fugazi.

Lodi (9-8 overall, 1-0 TCAL) opened with a 12-point run before Tracy got back in it, and it was close the rest of the way, including a 37-37 tie at the end of the third quarter.

The win came days after Lodi placed third at the Pitman Holiday Classic with a 75-69 win over Livermore on Dec. 29. Evans led Lodi with 18 points, along with 17 from Aberle, 13 from Van Tassel, eight from Morita, seven from Fabian and five from Alejandrez.

Stagg 45, Galt 37

After being outscored 13-0 in the first quarter and trailed 2510 at halftime, Galt (9-7) outscored Stagg 27-20 in the second half of Wednesday’s non-league home game at Warrior Gym.

Sophomore guard Raina Saldivar led Galt in scoring with 11 points. Haley Sanchez followed with six points, Kaya Weaver and Mizan Johnson four each, Madison Petersen and Yuina Okubo three each, Jessica McAllister, Julia Baffa and Hannah Aguirre two each.

The Warriors begin Sierra Valley Conference action today at Rosemont of Sacramento.

Junior varsity

Galt 34, Stagg 23

Norma Meza had 14 points for Galt (9-7) in Wednesday’s non-league home game. Sarah Reece was next with eight points, Navaeah Pate six and Alondra Hernandez, Emily McCalla and Winter Griffith two each.

St. Mary’s 54, Tokay 26

Jenny Corona led the Tigers with eight points in Thursday’s loss, while Amara Charles had six points and 14 rebounds. Karen Nateras added four points, Ahmiena El-Kheidi and Yasmeen Ibrahim each had two and Sofia Salas had two.

On Wednesday, the Tigers lost to Oakdale 45-40 in their non-league finale, with Corona finishing with 14 points and seven assists. El-Kheidi had 10 points and five rebounds, Charles had six points, Ibrahim and Zahleyah Miller had four points each and Nateras had two points. Salas added seven boards.

GIRLS SOCCER Tokay 1, Tracy 1

Noelia Salas scored Tokay’s lone goal as the Tigers opened TCAL play with one point from the tie.

The assist came from Sophia Casciaro, and Madison CoveyTaylo­r tallied six saves.

Madeline Garcia scored Tokay’s lone goal in Thursday’s loss, with five saves from Crystal Varela.
