Elliott will run against Harder not Galgiani
TRACY — In a rare turn of events, a candidate for California's 5th District Senate seat has switched races.
Bob Elliott announced on Monday that he has decided to run for the 10th U.S. Congressional District seat in the 2020 election instead of seeking to replace Cathleen Galgiani in the California state Senate.
The 10th Congressional District seat is currently held by Josh Harder, D-Turlock, who defeated Republican incumbent Jeff Denham in 2018.
Elliott said that days after announcing his candidacy for state Senate, he received “new information” that caused him to reconsider a run for the 5th district seat, but did not want to disclose what that entailed.
“After speaking with (the National Republican Congressional Committee), I decided this was the right thing to do and the best place where I could be most effective,” he said.
