You can’t ignore Trump’s accomplishments
On Tuesday,
June 18 I had the pleasure of hosting a “Watch Party” for President Trump’s kickoff of his presidential campaign. I couldn’t attend in Orlando, Fla., where he spoke, so I did the second-best thing and invited some friends to join my wife Evelia and me at our residence to view his speech here in Lodi.
What I thought would be just a few neighbors turned out to be nearly 30 friends and neighbors who wanted to join us and cheer the president on in his quest for a second term, a president who has made and kept his promises.
On the economy and jobs, our president has made tax cuts and passed a jobs bill.
He created 6 million new Jobs, including 350,000-plus manufacturing jobs. We are at a record low unemployment rate thanks to his leadership.
On immigration, which is a subject near and dear to me as I am the son of legal immigrants from Mexico, I am proud of his stance on cracking down on sanctuary cities. As one who has served as a Los Angeles police officer, United States marshal, Director of the California Youth Authority and chairman of the Youthful Offender Parole Board, I am appalled and chagrined at the lack of support for government agencies trying to control our borders from people trying to illegally enter our country. We are a sovereign nation which has the duty and right to secure our borders.
With an opioid epidemic killing thousands in our
country, you would think controlling our border would be a priority. The illegals entering our cities include MS13 gang members, which our local police officers end up having to deal with. Support our local police by supporting the building of and repairing a porous southern border that is allowing illegal importation of people and drugs. If you can’t control your border, you don’t have a country.
Our foreign policy which has restored respect for our country and our national security and defense, in expanding and modernizing our military, has made us safer in this world.
The globalists in the United Nations, a body we need not belong to, are chagrined and saddened that our president believes our country should not shoulder the economic burden of membership fees and other expenses of despotic countries in the United Nations. We should withdraw from this “socialist organization.”
Veterans, such as many of my friends and relatives have had to put up with inefficiencies for too long from the “swamp” and careerists who answered to nobody. They were surprised that this administration passed legislation that holds VA caregivers accountable. Further, President Trump fully funded the V.A. Choice Program, giving our veterans options for treatment.
In my nearly 11 years that I have lived in Lodi, I have run for the House of Representatives three times, twice defeating others to finish in the top two as the Republican party nominee. I nearly defeated the Democrat incumbent once.
I have competed as a Lodi City Council candidate and was the nominee for State Assembly. I have served as the county party chair and have been a registered Republican for my entire voting life.
I consider myself a “conservative” more than a Republican, as many Republicans as do Democrats vote with their pocketbooks more than their values. As an example, when running for office in one of my closest races a prominent so-called Republican held a fund-raiser for my opponent, I believe it was because I told that person that I would be a representative of the people, not a yes person for contributors.
Our Republic, yes, not Democracy, needs saving. The founders were well educated, God-fearing people who built in protections for the minorities by having an electoral college. Because of this, the leftist majorities of New York and California cannot decide who will be our president by mere popular vote.
Much is said about popular vote, but we must be cognizant of the fact that our Republic was a well thought out document based on inalienable rights given by God, not man.
The way to save our country is to support a man such as Trump, who didn’t need this job but has proven to be a leader that loves our country.
As a person who was honored by being appointed by two great men, George H.W. Bush and George P. Bush, I urge the “never Trumpers” to think with your heads and not your emotions and support our president. To the Democrats who love our country and not socialism, I encourage your support. To Independents, many who registered as such because you are tired of partisanship, join us in our fight to Keep America Great.
