Gro­cery Out­let kicks off July with In­de­pen­dence From Hunger cam­paign

LODI — Gro­cery Out­let, 520 S. Chero­kee Lane, has be­gun its In­de­pen­dence From Hunger cam­paign, where peo­ple can do­nate $5 in store or on­line to help com­bat food inse­cu­rity in San Joaquin County. Res­i­dents of Lodi are en­cour­aged to stop by the Gro­cery Out­let store and do­nate to their cam­paign at the reg­is­ter.

Ac­cord­ing to the Cal­i­for­nia As­so­ci­a­tion of Food Banks, one out of ev­ery eight Cal­i­for­ni­ans does not know where their next meal will come from, and one in five chil­dren go to bed hungry each night. Sum­mer­time tends to be a busy time for food banks, as kids are out of school and more fam­i­lies are in need.

Over the past eight years, the cam­paign has raised $5 mil­lion for lo­cal com­mu­nity non­prof­its.
