De­spite be­ing the birthplace of Count Basie, Whit­ney Hous­ton, Mary Chapin Car­pen­ter, Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Spring­steen and Frank Si­na­tra, New Jer­sey is the only U.S. state that doesn’t have an official state song. Ap­par­ently, Gar­den State law­mak­ers can’t pick just one. They’ve tried many times over the years in­clud­ing in 2016, when a bill was pro­posed des­ig­nat­ing five sep­a­rate songs (none by the above­named artists) as “official.” The idea was voted down.
