Stockton teen shot, killed at back­yard party

STOCKTON — A 19year-old man was fa­tally shot dur­ing a large back­yard party Satur­day night in an un­in­cor­po­rated pocket of north­west Stockton, the San Joaquin County Sher­iff's Of­fice re­ported.

The shoot­ing oc­curred about 10:40 p.m. in the 1600 block of Paloma Av­enue, a res­i­den­tial neigh­bor­hood of older sin­gle-fam­ily homes north­west of West Ham­mer Lane and Per­sh­ing Av­enue.

The vic­tim, who was not named pend­ing pos­i­tive iden­ti­fi­ca­tion and no­ti­fi­ca­tion of next of kin, was shot in the lower ab­domen. A per­son who was on scene along with deputies who ar­rived six min­utes af­ter be­ing dis­patched per­formed CPR on the vic­tim un­til medics and fire­fight­ers ar­rived, ac­cord­ing to the Sher­iff's Of­fice.

The vic­tim was trans­ported to an area hos­pi­tal where he un­der­went surgery for his gun­shot in­juries. He was pro­nounced dead at the hos­pi­tal early Sun­day morn­ing, ac­cord­ing to the re­port.

No ar­rests have been made in the case. Sher­iff's Of­fice spokes­woman Deputy An­drea Lopez said Sun­day af­ter­noon that in­ves­ti­ga­tors have very lim­ited in­for­ma­tion and there was no sus­pect in­for­ma­tion to re­lease. The party was at­tended by ap­prox­i­mately 75 people, ac­cord­ing to Lopez.

Im­me­di­ately af­ter the shoot­ing, news re­ports in­di­cated there was chaos. There was at least one brawl, and a wit­ness told SCW News that teens were scream­ing and run­ning in dif­fer­ent direc­tions.
