Helping build the leaders of tomorrow
At Jim Elliot Christian High School, administration and staff offer many opportunities on campus for students to develop leadership skills, like the Prefect Program and Interact Club.
“JECHS is committed to developing highly educated and effective contributors to this generation,” Principal Tim Clements said.
Interact Club
JECHS Interact Club is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lodi. The club is devoted to serving the community in various ways. Students learn leadership and teamwork skills while working towards a goal of making an impact in the community. In the last few years, the club has volunteered for many service projects around Lodi and worked alongside Grace & Mercy, Living Water Recycling, Bear Creek Water, Operation Christmas Child, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The projects include recycling to raise money for wells in other countries, feeding the homeless, wrapping Christmas gifts for the less fortunate, and raising money for children with cancer through a schoolwide fundraiser.
Most recently, students volunteered at the Vienna Nursing Home.
Robotics
JECHS is home to a multiaward winning robotics team. Raptor Force’s competitive team starts in October with team practices. On the first Saturday of the year, challenges are announced, and the robotic team has six weeks to design and construct a robot from scratch. At the end of construction, the team prepares for regional competition. If teams advance, they attend the world competition, competing against 50,000 competitors. JECHS is the only American team to win an Israeli regional competition.
Drama Club
The drama club at Jim Elliot is small but mighty, yet they have tackled classics such as “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Robin Hood,” “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” and, most recently, “Cinderella Wore Combat Boots.”
Everyone in the club puts in tons of extra hours for rehearsals, costume fittings, choreography sessions. The students are responsible for helping finance the cost of the production by participating in various fundraising events, and we rely on the many talents of our supportive parents for help with makeup, set design/construction, as well as costuming.
Students share enthusiasm and passion for the art of theatre which creates a positive and upbeat atmosphere where putting on a good show, having fun, and making life-long memories all blend together into a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Art Class
Elliot’s art class offers and highlights skills the students already possess and trains students as they acquire new skills. The class has applied to the City of Lodi to participate in the Traffic Control Box Program.
Chess Club
JECHS is home to a chess club hosted twice a week. During lunch, many students meet to play chess in a variety of time controls. The chess club has a ranking system to track players’ rating and improvement, and the club hosts two chess tournaments per year, crowning a yearly JECHS chess champion. The club encourages students to use critical thinking and strategy as they compete, and fosters an environment of patience, respect, and sportsmanship.
All grades and skill levels are welcome, even if playing chess for the first time.
Student Council
Student Council at Elliot is a program dedicated to building problem-solving and communication skills that help students in their eventual college and career lives. Student leaders spend time organizing school events, understanding the needs of the student body, and learning to make every voice feel heard.
The school’s traditional student council teaches the skills necessary for students to work within committees.
Students enjoy the opportunities of being involved in a variety of clubs and activities that are student driven and meet their interests.
