No fireworks shows in Lodi, Galt for July 4
For area residents seeking a Fourth of July fireworks spectacular, this year is all about DIY.
Lodi announced in April that the annual Celebrate America and Fourth at the Lake events, traditionally held on July 3 and 4, would be indefinitely postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Tuesday, the City of Lodi posted a reminder of the decision on Facebook.
A new date has not been set for the celebrations.
City officials want people to enjoy the July 4 holiday, but asks that Lodi residents be careful to continue practicing social distancing, and to avoid celebrating with people outside their immediate household to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“We understand that people want to celebrate the day as best they can under the circumstances,” city spokesman Jeff Hood said.
In May, Galt canceled its annual festivities, including its fireworks show, fun run and parade.
“We want to assure you that this decision was not one made lightly. We are incredibly saddened to
cancel one of our most popular community events. However, the safety of our residents, visitors, staff and volunteers is of paramount importance,” Mayor Paul Sandhu said in a statement in mid-May.
Lodi also canceled its annual fireworks booths, where nonprofits sell “safe and sane” fireworks each year.
Galt, however, decided to allow its fireworks booths to operate this year. The stands opened on Sunday.
TNT Fireworks booths can be found at 12791 Casity Lane, 10225 Twin Cities Road, 14097 S. Lincoln Way, and the southwest corner of the intersection at Caroline Avenue and Fairway Drive. Phantom Fireworks will have a stand at the vacant lot adjacent to 10393 Twin Cities Road in Galt.
