MLB’s ‘Field of Dreams’ game is still on for Aug. 13

-

CHICAGO — The status for the “MLB at Field of Dreams” game hasn’t changed, according to a report from MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.

The Chicago White Sox originally were scheduled to play the New York Yankees Aug. 13 on the Dyersville, Iowa, farm where the Oscar nominated film “Field of Dreams” took place.

The new 2020 schedule has not been released, but it will feature 60 games, 40 against division foes and 20 interleague games against the corresponding geographical division (East vs. East, Central vs. Central, West vs. West). That seemingly would set up a different matchup for the “Field of Dreams” game since the Sox are in the American League Central and the Yankees are in the AL East.

Morosi tweeted it is possible the teams involved will be different and that plans could be announced later this week.

“To date there has been no change in the status of the event, and we hope to have the option to play,” MLB said in a statement to Morosi. “Construction is continuing and we are following all CDC and state protocols regarding recommended safety practices, including social distancing, washing hands, and temperature checks before arriving to the site. Safeguarding public health is our top priority. We are monitoring ongoing events and plan to remain as flexible as these circumstances demand.”

The “MLB at Field of Dreams” game was announced last August, with the Sox and Yankees scheduled to meet for one game at a temporary 8,000-seat ballpark in Dyersville, which is about 200 miles west of Chicago.
