-

Alfred Lee (Al) Rathjen (78) of Stockton, California, passed away on December 25, 2020, after a series of complications following a stroke earlier in the year.

Al was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Carole, son Jeffrey Rathjen of Galt, daughter Cheri Di Dio of Foresthill, and sister Sharon Faulkner of Peoria, Arizona, as well as his three granddaughters Kayla Watts, Jordan Di Dio, and Megan Stickel, and four great-grandsons Brody, Weston, Colton, and Tanner Watts. Al was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Grace Rathjen, his younger brother Dennis Rathjen, and his step-son Jeffrey Enos.

Al was born on February 28, 1942, in Lodi, California, and lived his entire life in the San Joaquin Valley. He married Carole Schwager Enos in 1967, and they made their home in Stockton.

Al worked for nearly 50 years as a commercial carpenter installing acoustical ceilings and wall panels mostly in the Bay Area on large jobs like PacBell Park, Moscone Center, Bank of America (once one of the tallest buildings in San Francisco), the Yerba Buena Park skating rink, and the IMAX theater in San Francisco. He joined the Carpenters Local Union No. 152 in 1961, and was a member in good standing for more than 59 years. He loved his job! Al retired in January 2008 and soon discovered a passion for golf. He played often and made at least a few trips to the course each week, as long as he was able.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Al will be laid to rest in a private ceremony on a date yet to be determined.
