DOLLY OUYE

Dolly Ouye, of Acampo, CA passed away quietly on January 18, 2021 at the age of 92 at the De Un Amor Assisted Living Facility.

Dolly was born on August 19, 1928 in Acampo at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dement who owned a grape ranch. Dolly was a bashful child and spent a lot of time by herself. Dolly used to enjoy watching clouds float by. She would try to guess what kind of animal or people the cloud looked like.

Dolly had finished elementary school in Acampo by the time World War II started in 1941. In May 1942, the family was sent to the Rohwer Relocation Center in Arkansas. Dolly attended 3 years of high school at the relocation camp.

In July 1945, the family returned to California. They settled at Mandeville Island in Stockton. Dolly graduated high school after attending one semester at Stockton High School and one semester at Lodi High School.

After high school, Dolly went to work in San Francisco. Wesley attended the Heald Engineerin­g School in San Francisco. Dolly and Wesley dated for a year before getting married on April Fools’ Day, 1950 in Lodi.

Dolly returned to Lodi when she became pregnant with their first son, Darryl. Wesley stayed in San Francisco to finish school. Wesley returned to Lodi and became a grape farmer. Dolly and Wesley had 3 more children, Michael, Noreen and Kim. Dolly retired from Bailey’s Nursery in 1992 after 29 years.

After her retirement, Dolly was busy caring for her mother until her passing in 1999. Dolly loved to visit with her three grandchild­ren, Bryan, Jason and Sebastian. Dolly continued to enjoy watching the clouds.

Dolly is survived by three children, Darryl Ouye and his wife Maria, Michael Ouye and his wife Patsy, and Kim Ouye; son-in-law Tim Lee; three grandchild­ren, Bryan Lee, Jason Lee, and Sebastian Doll-Ouye; sister Jane Motoyama. Dolly was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley and daughter, Noreen Lee.

A private family service will be held when the COVID-19 pandemic is under control and people can safely travel.
