Promoting Lodi’s bustling bike scene

-

Editor: Happy Bike Month! In the past, I’ve discussed the benefits of bike riding, such as: improved heart health from low impact exercise, saving money on gas and car maintenance, and creating less air pollution. Not to mention, it’s FUN to ride a bike.

One of the few positives that came out of the pandemic shutdown was the dramatic increase in bike riding! Bikes were everywhere, and it’s Bike Lodi’s goal to keep this momentum going. We’re continuing to promote new routes and local bike rides, advocate for bike lanes and other safety measures, and provide free bike valets at community events.

Starting Thursday May 12, the bike valet will be at all the Chamber’s downtown farmers markets. We will also be parking bikes at the Lodi Tokay Rotary Craft Beer Fest at Lodi Lake on June 11. Finally, as the Kiwanis’ 4th of July Pancake Breakfast returns to Lodi Lake, we’ll be there hoping to break our record and park more than 600 bikes! So, mark your calendars, pump up the tires, and plan to ride your bike to the next community event. Please join us in celebrating Bike Month by pedaling around Lodi!

More motorized carts needed at Costco

Editor: My husband and I went shopping at Costco the other day here in Lodi. As usual the parking lot was full. We are both in our 80s and disabled so thank goodness for all the parking spots showing parking for the handicapped. When we got into the store we wanted to get a motorized cart for one of us. This has happened several times to us leading us to have to wait for a cart (sometimes as long as 30 minutes).

We found out they only have four carts available for the whole store. At least a couple of times recently we had to leave and could not shop there because no carts became available. Four carts for the size of your store does not seem very user-friendly since some carts would not be available because they would have to be charged in order to be used again.

Come on Costco, I know the carts may be an added expense but your volume of business needs more motorized carts

available for the handicapped. SHIRLEY BOHNET Lodi
