NASCAR’s Byron to remain at Hendrick Motorsports through 2025
William Byron will stick with Hendrick Motorsports for at least the next three years.
The driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet signed a contract extension to remain with the powerhouse racing organization through the end of the 2025 Cup Series season, the team announced Thursday.
Byron has two wins after 11 races this year, putting him at four total career victories in NASCAR’s top series since he began driving for team owner Rick Hendrick in 2018. He’s the only Cup driver besides four-time champion Jeff Gordon, who is now vice chairman of Hendrick Motorsports, to win for the organization in the No. 24 Chevrolet.
“I’m so thankful to continue racing for Mr. Hendrick, Jeff and Hendrick Motorsports,” Byron said in a statement. “Since I joined the organization, they’ve supported my growth process every step of the way, including my path to the Cup Series.”
The 24-year-old Charlotte native quickly advanced through NASCAR’s national series ranks, winning seven races during his 2016 Truck Series season and four races driving in the Xfinity Series in the year prior to his Cup debut.
Byron is part of a cadre of young driver talent at Hendrick Motorsports that includes Cup Series champions Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott, as well as seven-time Cup race winner Alex Bowman. Larson and Bowman are signed with the organization through next season and Elliott is signed through 2027. Byron’s prior contract ran through the end of this season.
“With the great people around me, I’m excited to continue pursuing race wins and playoff success,” Byron’s statement said. “Together we’ve built a No. 24 team that I know will contend for championships. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season and my years to come with Hendrick Motorsports.”
Hendrick has repeatedly expressed his desire to keep his driving core together, and the move to extend Byron’s contract comes as little surprise. It formally cements his future with the team.
