ELLEEN V. SELOVER

Elleen V. Selover was born March 4, 1932 in Klum North Dakota to Walter and Hattie Uttecht. The family moved to Lodi in 1935.

Elly loved her class of 1949, where she was an active pepstir on the swim team, tumbler, majorette and assistant director for the senior play “Our Hearts Were Young & Gay”. After graduation, she taught twirling for the Lodi Recreation­al Department.

In 1951, she attended San Jose State where she met Benjamin Alan Selover whose Fraternity was hashing (serving) the Alpha Phi Sorority House. One year later they were married in Lodi where they raised their 3 children, Terri Alana, Stephen Alan, and Michael Kent, whom in turn gave her 7 grandchild­ren, 9 great grandchild­ren, 2 on the way.

Elly was very active in her community. She was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church where she served as a wedding coordinato­r and on the Alter Guild, San Joaquin County Historical Society, Omega Nu President from ’62 to ’63 Iota Beta, Hospital Cutups, fundraiser­s, fashion shows at Mickey’s Grove, decorated 6 Annual Legion Champagne Dinners. She also was a member of the Red Hat Club, Blue Bird leader, and a Cub Scout den mother.

She worked 10 years for Fairmont Investment Corporatio­n as the Executive Secretary and office manager at Fairmont Medical Arts. She taught adult classes in arts and crafts, clothing constructi­on, and home economics. She invested in a trip to Massachuse­tts to study stitchery with Erica Wilson, moved to Crystal Bay Nevada for 10 years, began her own business “Grannies Attic”, worked on the TV show Bananza as a seamstress, Lakeside Community Hospital as the Patient Service Manager, data processing, and a concierge at The Hyatt Regency.

Elly is preceded in death by her husband Benji who died in 1998, prompting her to move back to Lodi in 2000. She loved being with family and friends, her Boston Terriers, our family cabin in Tahoe, trips to Jackson, gardening, decorating, entertaini­ng and Bunko. Honoring her wishes, she passed away in her home knowing she was loved.
