SHIZUNO NITTA

Shizuno Nitta, age 102, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2022 surrounded by family. She was born on July 15, 1919 in Galt, California to Masao and Masu Takahashi.

While still in grammar school, she was sent to Japan to continue her education. After graduating from high school, she returned to Galt. On March 9, 1941, she married Kiyoshi Nitta, who preceded her death in 1995.

From 1942 to 1945 they were interned in Arkansas and later to Tulelake CA. After the war, they moved to Acampo, California where they raised their children.

She was a long time member of the Lodi Buddhist Church and active in Fujinkai and Shin Yu Kai. Her passion was gardening and continued to work on her garden until she passed away. She was also a an avid reader and wrote in her diary everyday.

Shizuno is survived by her sister, Hideko Arita, of San Francisco; sister-inlaw, Emiko Nitta of Granada Hills; daughter, Susan; three sons and their wives, Thomas, Kenneth, and Gordon; grandchild­ren, Ramon, Stacey, Brian, Kevin, Mitchell, and Nolan; and great grandchild­ren, Kailea and Khloe.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
