Caltrans to activate new ramp meters on Highway 99 in SJ County
STOCKTON — The California Department of Transportation is scheduled to activate three newly-installed ramp meters along Highway 99 in San Joaquin County.
Ramp metering is a traffic management strategy that uses traffic signals and accompanying equipment and techniques to manage the on-ramp flow of traffic.
The new ramp meters in San Joaquin County will be activated sequentially, beginning with northbound Highway 99 at Lathrop Road on May 24 and French Camp Road on May 31, and on southbound Highway 99 at French Camp Road on June 7, 2022.
One week prior to activation, each meter will be in a “solid green” phase. Once activated, these ramp meters are scheduled to be active Mondays through Fridays from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Caltrans will perform field surveillance, collect traffic data, adjust meter timing rates, and monitor the ramp queues.
