JACKIE GUTHRIE

-

Jackie “Jack” Nelson Guthrie passed away on January 6, 2023 at 80 years of age. He was born January 13, 1942 at Buchanan Hospital in Lodi, CA to Dorothy Eleene Guthrie and Miron Nelson Guthrie of Galt, CA. He is survived by his three daughters: Kari Ianni (David); Kim Guthrie (Michele), and Kris Palmer. He was the beloved grandfather of Lauren Perry (Zack), Jenna Ianni, and William Palmer. He is also survived by his sister Linda, brother Dick, former wife Judy, many nieces and nephews, and a cat or two. He was predeceased by his brother Jere.

Jack began life with a show of strength. Born prematurely, he survived with the help of a homemade incubator made of light bulbs. He was the eldest child with two brothers and a sister. Jack graduated from the Lodi Academy where he played the trumpet in the band. He attended Humphrey’s College and in 1966, he received his CPA license after having studied and taken exams with two baby daughters at home and another on the way.

Jack started his CPA business in Stockton, CA and grew a consistent clientele. He served many people and businesses throughout the San Joaquin Valley for many years. His eldest daughter Kari, who also became a CPA, gained some early accounting experience with her father at his business. Jack saw three daughters through college who earned 6 degrees amongst them. His love of classical music inspired his youngest daughter to pursue music and become a professional flutist. Jack eventually retired and moved to Acampo, CA where he could be closer to his eldest daughter, son in-law, and granddaughters.

Jack was much loved for his sense of humor and consistently up-beat, cando approach. He could always be counted on for a sly smile and a bawdy joke. Jack enjoyed the outdoors, vegetable gardening (really big gardens!), cooking meals to enjoy with his family, and spending time with friends at the Stockton Elks Lodge. He was generous with his homemade pickled veggies, baked goods, and home-grown produce. Jack was a no-nonsense man who enjoyed a good laugh, a good steak, and a stiff drink. We all raise a glass in his memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to your favorite charity in his honor.
