Since 1899, the finest Creole cuisine has been served in the mahogany-paneled, art nouveau dining room of Cafe Sblisa ( cafesbisanola .com). Damaged in Hurricane Katrina, the restaurant has had a turbulent decade, but made a triumphant return last fall. Chef and co-owner Alfred Singleton has cooked up an inspired French–Creole menu: crab cakes and daily gumbo specials are highlights.
