Lions dismiss coach and GM
The Detoit Lions fired coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn, who hired the coach to replace Jim Caldwell, and effectively ended the franchise’s attempt to replicate the success the men helped Bill Belichick achieve in New England.
The moves were made Saturday, surprising no one.
Darrell Bevell, who has 14 seasons of experience as an offensive coordinator, will be the interim coach for the final five games. The general manager’s duties will be handled on an interim basis by Kyle O’Brien, Lance Newmark, Rob Lohman and Mike Disner, all of whom worked for Quinn in the front office.
Rams moves
The NFL has suspended Rams cornerback Tyrique McGhee, who is on the practice squad, for two weeks without pay for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing substances, the team announced.
Rookie linebacker Terrell Lewis was ruled out of Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers because of a knee injury. Edge rusher Derek Rivers, claimed off waivers last week from the Patriots, was activated to the roster, but coach Sean McVay said Friday that it was doubtful Rivers would play Sunday.
