Cardinal top Huskies, cap a week on the road

-

Austin Jones rushed for a pair of first-half touchdowns, Davis Mills threw a three-yard scoring pass to Scooter Harrington early in the second half and Stanford held off No. 22 Washington’s second-half comeback in a 31-26 victory Saturday.

A crazy week for Stanford that saw the Cardinal forced away from campus because of COVID-19 restrictions to continue their season ended with their first victory over the Huskies in Seattle since 2014.

Stanford relocated its entire program from the Bay Area to Seattle last week, used a high school for practice and had its Friday walkthrough in a public park in the suburb of Bellevue.

Coach David Shaw and his staff originally tried to do the walk-through in a mall parking garage but were asked to go elsewhere.

“People were taking pictures and making fun of us, but we come out here and beat them up so there’s no happier feeling right now,” Stanford offensive lineman Foster Sarell said.

at California 21, No. 23 Oregon 17: Chase Garbers threw for a touchdown and ran for a short score, Muelu Iosefa had a late fumble recovery and the Golden Bears earned their first victory of the season.

The Ducks got the ball back with 2:01 left and Tyler Shough marched them down the field, but his team gave the ball away once again in what has become a problematic pattern for Oregon this season.

Garbers outshined Shough, who threw for 231 yards in his fifth time with 200-plus yards passing in as many career starts.

Shough’s 67-yard completion to Travis Dye in the final minute of the second quarter set up a one-yard touchdown run by Cyrus HabibiLikio that lifted the Ducks to a 17-14 halftime lead, but they didn’t score again.

Colorado 24, at Arizona 13:

Jarek Broussard ran for a career-high 301 yards and Ashaad Clayton ran for two touchdowns as the Buffaloes stayed undefeated.

Broussard broke loose with long runs on two separate drives in the second quarter that set up touchdowns.

He repeatedly sliced through Arizona’s defense — reeling off runs of 75, 72 and 59 yards — and Colorado piled up 407 yards rushing.

at Utah 30, Oregon State 24:

Britain Covey returned a punt 64 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter and the Utes withstood a late Beavers rally for their first win in three tries this season and first win since Nov.30, 2019.
