Jack McClellan was born on December 16, 1918 in Los Angeles and expired May 3,2021. in Alhambra at the age of 102. Jack graduated from Belmont High School in ‘36. His first job was as office boy to the president of Pacific Mutual Life Insurance Company. He enrolled at USC and by working two jobs he graduated in ‘42. He enliste in theArmy Air Corps immediatel­y after Pearl Harbor, was called to service in ‘42 and served four years in England, France and Germany. His career in education began in ‘46 as an elementary teacher in LAUSD. He became a demonstrat­ion/ training teacher for USC and in ‘49 was appointed the first male elementary academic supervisor in LAUSD. As a principal he opened Calvert Elementary School in ‘56 then was advanced as administra­tive assistant to the curriculum superinten­dent in ‘60. That same year he was appointed assistant superinten­dent. He retired from the District in ‘76.

Jack used the GI Bill to earn a Master’s Degree and a Doctor’s Degree in Education at USC. For several semesters he was an adjunct professor and was Jjast president of the Education Alumni Associatio­n. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, an education fraternity and Phi Kappa Phi, an honorary acadernic fraternity. He authored instructio­nal materials for IBM and Houghton Mifflin as well as three historical romance novels and six children’s books.

Over the years Jack drove VW campers across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa. His pride possession was an ‘86 VW camper which drove to the end of his driving years. As a boy he began collecting postage stamps, a hobby that d veloped into an extensive collection of U.S. stamps. Jack leaves a large extended family and seven god children. Services are scheduled tor Monday at St. Stevens Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, 1621W. Garvey Ave., May 10, 2021, @ 10:30 Alhambra,91801with burial following at the Serbian Cemetery, 4355 E. Second St., Los Angeles.
