HAGEMANN, Katherine Crowley

1947 - 2021

-

On March 6, 2021 Katherine Crowley Hagemann of Valencia passed away with her husband, sons, and daughterin-law by her side. We would like to imagine that she has entered a heaven resembling a luxury cruise ship, and was immediately named the official event coordinator and program scheduler. She loved travel, parties and being together with family and friends.

Kathy was born April 5, 1947 to Marilu and Dennis Crowley in Los Angeles. She grew up in Sherman Oaks, attending St. Francis de Sales School and Louisville High School. As the oldest of five children, she embraced her role as big sister.

Kathy worked and studied hard, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mount St. Mary’s College and Loyola Marymount, respectively. She started her professional life in teaching but moved on to banking. Her heart pulled her back to teaching, and she spent 20 years at Castaic and North Lake Hills Elementary schools relishing her role as Mrs. Hagemann to scores of 1st and 2nd graders.

To the delight of family and friends, Kathy married Karl, her wonderful partner and travel companion for over 42 years. They raised 2 amazing sons, Michael and Jon, rejoiced in their daughter-in-law Kelly, and became the doting grandparents to Cara (7), Maya (5), Ryan (3) and Lila (2).

Kathy and Karl enjoyed retirement, travelling throughout the country and to Europe and Israel. Some of their travels included trips with the St. Charles Borromeo Choir. Karl sang with the choir, Kathy was a loyal groupie.

Kathy was a breast cancer survivor who showed us all how to face adversity with tenacity and optimism. She met each challenge in life with courage.

Her memory and laughter will live on through her husband, sons, daughter-in-law, 4 beloved grandchildren, and her 4 siblings, multiple nephews and nieces, cousins, legion of friends, and the hundreds of children she taught over the years. She will be dearly missed.

A private service was held at St. Charles Borromeo Church on April 7th, and she was laid to rest later that day at San Fernando Mission Cemetery.

For those who wish to donate in Kathy’s memory, donations can be made to a charitable organization contributing to breast cancer research, treatment, or support for patients and survivors.
