Bobby Lee Russ (Bob) passed away on April 30, 2021, in Orange, California due to multiple health complications. He was 94 years old. In his final month of life he was lovingly surrounded by his son and daughter who spent quality time with him up until his final day of life. Bobby was born November 17, 1926 in Louisville, Kentucky to Henry Clay Russ and Lucy Mae Bullion. He was part of what was called the Greatest Generation AKA the G.I. Generation. People of this time (Born between 1901-1927) faced both World War II and the Great Depression.

Bobby grew up in a large family and was one of 9 siblings. Although they were very poor their mother always made sure their basic needs were met. He loved his mother very much and talked about her until the day he died.

In 1939, Bobby’s mother passed away and he and 4 of his siblings were sent to Oesterlen Orphans Home in Springfield Ohio. He lived there from age 12-17. His 2 older brothers joined the military and his 2 sisters worked. His sister Altha was a stenographer.

When Bobby was 17, he ran away from the orphan’s home and shortly thereafter joined the Marines during WWII as a Private Rifleman. In 1950, he joined the Air force as a Senior Aircraft Maintenance Tech. He retired from the Military in Okinawa, Japan in 1968.

In 1967, Bobby met his soon-to-be wife Tamae Akimine. They fell in love, moved to California, bought a home, and lovingly raised their 2 children Eddie and Lucy.

From 1969-1992 Bobby worked as a mail carrier for USPS. He finally decided it was time to retire (for a second time) and enjoy time at home. After retirement he spent his time with family, fishing, avidly reading, and occasionally golfing.

He is survived by his children Eddie and Lucy, his daughter-in-law Adrianna, his son-in-law Jonathan, and grandchildren Tamia, Aliya, and E.J.

Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Henry Clay Russ; mother, Lucy Mae Bullion; brothers, Henry (Gordon), Donald, Leland, James, and William; sisters, Martha, Virginia, and Altha.

The family will hold a private military ceremony at Riverside National Cemetary on June 16, 2021.
