Jeanne “Mary” L. Bryan

Passed away peacefully in the morning after a year long battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She was 90 years old.

Mary was born in Portland, Oregon to Nina Dressel and James Stuart Haynes Leavy. After growing up in Portland Heights, she attended Rosemont College outside of Philadelph­ia, PA. Mary then attended Zweegman School for Medical Secretarie­s in San Francisco where she met her husband of 45 years, Christophe­r “Tim” Bryan. Married July 23, 1955, together they raised five children in Pacific Palisades, California. Family and friends “wore” her kitchen out on Camarosa Drive.

Mary’s passion was the theater acting in many college plays. In Los Angeles she joined the 9 O’clock Players to bring theater and the Arts to children’s schools, groups throughout the city. Mary was on the executive board of the Los Angeles Junior League, Junior Philharmon­ic of Los Angeles, The Los Angeles Orphanage Guild, and Loyola Marymount Parent Advisory. She was active at Corpus Christi Church, Loyola High School, Pacific Palisades High School, and Louisville High School, later volunteeri­ng at The Betty Ford Clinic, Eisenhower Hospital, and Saddleback Memorial Medical Center.

Mary’s optimism, kindness, and bright eyes were infectious to anyone who met her, and will never be forgotten.

Survived by her children, Nina (Mark Nitti), Monica (Sean Burke), Mary Stuart, Christophe­r, and Henry (Courtney), her grandchild­ren, Bryan, Christophe­r, Paige, Michael, Carly, Abigail, Mollie, Henry, and her older sister, Sally Leavy Follen.

A memorial mass will be held on July 10, 2021, 1 pm, at the Mission San Juan Capistrano by long time friend Monsignor Paul Dotson.
