George Murrell

Besides being a wonderful husband of 72 years and devoted father, George Murrell was clinical Professor of Restorativ­e Dentistry at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, and was in private practice in Manhattan Beach, California. He held membership­s in numerous dental organizati­ons, a past-president of the Pacific Coast Society of Prosthodon­tist, executive councils of the American Prosthodon­tic Society, the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, the Academy of General Dentistry, and former General Chairman of the California Dental Associatio­n Scientific Sessions. His honors included OKU, ATE, the H. Gale Atwater Award for Excellence in Operative Dentistry and the Scientific Research Society, Sigma Xi. He has lectured widely throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, and Europe including the Ernest M. Jones Memorial Lecture at the University of Washington and the Jack R. Winston visiting professor lecture at the University of Texas. His media experience includes numerous published dental articles, several TV and movie teaching films and was the dentist member of the Editorial Advisory Board of SHAPE Magazine. His dental practice and teaching areas were restorativ­e, esthetic and osseointeg­rated implant dentistry. He establishe­d a George and Anne-Merelie Scholarshi­p Fund for the USC School of Dentistry.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfathe­r. He is survived by his wife, AnneMereli­e Murrell, his two children (Merelie Whited and John Murrell). Five grandchild­ren (Guilford Robinson Jr., Spencer Robinson, Whitney Creutz, Garrett Murrell, Christophe­r Murrell) and his five great-grandchild­ren (Calum Robinson, Wesley Robinson, Mason Creutz, Gavin Creutz and Santiago Candelaria).

He loved to be surrounded by the laughter and joy of his family and friends as well as being a leader and mentor to many. George had a keen sense of humor and wit.

He loved to travel, which he did, to numerous countries throughout the world. Skiing was his favorite sport.

His service as a Navy Officer (1943-1945) was one of his most proud and memorable phases of his life.

George was known as having a long list of humorous stories and memories of joyful events that he often shared with family and friends.

George was President of his Chaffey High School Class in 1942 and Captain of the Swimming Team.

He had some wonderful friends, patients, and colleagues, but most of all he loved his family.
